Feedback in the moment beats the survey nobody finishes
Health and social care services are asked to hear from patients more often. The answer is a simpler way to speak up, at the point of care.
Most patient feedback arrives late. A survey lands by email days or weeks after the visit, a small share of people reply, and by then the detail that mattered has faded. It satisfies a requirement and tells the service very little.
Ask in the moment
The best time to hear how care felt is straight after it. A code on a stand, a card or a poster lets someone say how it went before they leave the building or the carer leaves their home. It takes less than a minute.
Keep it small
One rating and a few words about that visit and the people involved. Not a questionnaire, and not wider than the experience itself. Small asks get answered.
Close the loop
Feedback is only useful if it reaches the right person. Compliments should reach the team who earned them; concerns should go straight to someone who can act. Then tell people what changed: you said, we did.
Let patients hear each other
Sharing what other patients have said, with their permission, builds trust and encourages the next person to speak up. Patient voices belong where patients are, not only in a report.
That is the thinking behind Straight Talking, our patient feedback platform for NHS, independent and social care providers.
